The University of Manchester recently had to apologise after it sent an email to students telling them they had all failed. The mail told dozens of chemical engineering students on a master’s programme that they were being relegated to a bachelor’s course. A correction was quickly sent 8 minutes later! The first email was sent out at just at 1pm on Thursday and read: “I regret to inform you that you have failed to meet the academic requirements of the MEng programme. You have not achieved the required year mark average.”
