Pack up your CIMA case study in BackOffice

The new OCS Pre-seen for the November 2024 and February case study is out. Featured are BackOffice, who design, manufacture and market backpacks.

They are a high-value fashion product, founded in 2015 (so quite a young company).

Top tutor Andrew Mower’s initial reaction was it is a ‘great pre-seen’, although on the longer side (back to nearly 30 pages). He says everyone hopefully knows what a backpack is, and it is not a complicated product!

Mower felt the company has a great ethos – they want their product to be beautiful, useful, durable (check out the special material), and comfortable.

BackOffice also want to be sustainable, and this will be a key thing in the case.

Mower said the other key themes of the OCS case are growth (9% growth expected), quality, IT (digital design is key), and production (where are they made?).

Innovation (4 new products ready to go), is going to feature too.

Mower’s Examinable topics included:

ABC (BackOffice could switch to ABC).

Stress Testing Budgets (only one supplier of ballistic nylon).

KPIs and variance (in most exams).

PPE and leases (spare capacity – lease new equipment?).

Expect Values (launching new products, think decision trees).

Inventory management (currently hold 2 months of stock).
