Some 40,072 tax payers submitted their returns over the Christmas break, ahead of the January deadline.
HMRC’s festive filing stats show 15:00 to 15:59 was the most popular time to file on 25 December – with 368 returns received.
On Christmas Eve a whopping 23,731 filed, thus avoiding any last-minute shopping, and wrapping.
