Did Personal fitness giant Garmin pay hackers £8 million to get its services up and running again? That is the big question being asked by cybersecurity experts today. Garmin was forced to close its call centres, websites, mobile app and online services after a ransomware attack, however a week later many services are now up and running.
To regain access Garmin needed to have the decryption toll to get its file back. Experts say there is only one way to do that – pay the hackers!
It is believed that the attack used ‘Wasted Locker’, a malicious software which disguises itself as a software update alert. The owners of this particular malware are the notorious Russian-based group Evil Corp.
