There is considerable room for improvement in the adoption of nature-related reporting, according to a new report from ACCA.
The report, Empowering business: navigating nature-related reporting, is also worried about the overall lack of alignments in targets found across the global set of organisations it assessed.
ACCA believes accountants will need to be able to build the business case for collecting nature-based data. This will require more learning about nature-related reporting and understanding the voluntary framework and guidance.
In addition, accountants will need to learn how to interpret new forms of data, much as with climate-related reporting, and integrate this into business processes, reporting and decision-making.
ACCA’s regional lead: Policy & Insights (EEMA & UK), Jessica Bingham, said: “Nature is the foundation for all life on Earth and our research suggests that an overwhelming number of organisations do not effectively assess and communicate their impacts and dependencies on nature.”
